| June is National Migraine & Headache Awareness Month, recognizing the millions affected by these often‑debilitating neurological conditions. Migraines can strike with little warning, impacting focus, judgment, and reaction time—key factors in both emergency response and daily life.
Common Symptoms Include: • Throbbing or pulsating head pain • Sensitivity to light, sound, or smells • Nausea or vomiting • Visual disturbances (flashes, zigzags), tingling, or speech difficulty • Fatigue, dizziness, or neck stiffness
For volunteer fire and rescue members, understanding these symptoms helps create a safer environment on calls, during training, and within the station. Awareness also supports community outreach—ensuring we can better assist individuals experiencing migraines or related symptoms during emergencies.
Let’s use this month to promote understanding, reduce stigma, and support both our responders and the community we serve. |
