Training is demanding and time consuming, but worthwhile!
The volunteer corporations within the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association (FCVFRA) are always seeking dedicated individuals who want to serve their community and be part of something meaningful.
Volunteering with Frederick County Fire and Rescue is one of the most challenging, rewarding, and fulfilling experiences you can have. We provide all the training, equipment, and support you need to become an active member of our vital emergency response system.
As a volunteer, you may find yourself in emergency situations that test your courage, determination, and ability to remain calm under pressure. You’ll receive professional, college?level training — at no cost — that can even earn you college credits. No prior experience is required and all training is FREE.
Frederick County Orientation Training Program
(also known as Gear Up New Member Orientation)
This course prepares new volunteers for a future in the fire and rescue service. It includes EEO, CPR/AED, HIPAA, and other essential compliance training. County medical clearance is required.
Firefighting
Firefighters are first responders trained to handle a wide range of emergencies. Before assisting on actual incidents, volunteers must complete Firefighter I and Hazardous Materials training.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
EMS clinicians provide lifesaving care to injured and ill patients. EMT certification is required to ride the ambulance and perform basic life support.
Specialties
Volunteers can expand their skills with specialty courses in water rescue, dive operations, rope rescue, wildland firefighting and leadership development. If you’re willing to put in the time and effort, there are many departments ready to welcome you.
We also proudly offer the Frederick County High School Work-Based Learning Internship Program, which follows the school calendar and allows students age 16+ to gain hands-on experience, develop real skills, and explore future careers in fire and rescue.
We are the dedicated Volunteer Firefighters and EMS Clinicians of Frederick County — calming fears, easing minds, and saving lives.
