Throughout the month, mental health advocates, prevention organizations, survivors, allies, and community members come together to raise awareness and inspire hope around suicide prevention. Many people are still coping with stress, isolation, or lingering challenges made worse in recent years, and when combined with factors like childhood trauma, substance misuse, or chronic pain, these struggles can feel overwhelming. But there is hope—suicide is preventable, and reaching out for help can make a life‑changing difference.

Suicidal thoughts can affect anyone, and while they are more common than many realize, they are always a signal that someone needs support. No one has to face these feelings alone. Every year, families and friends impacted by suicide carry heavy grief, often in silence, but opening conversations and reducing stigma can help people find the connection and care they need.

If you or someone you know is struggling, help is always available. You can call or text 9‑8‑8, the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, for immediate support. You can also reach the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1‑800‑273‑8255.

In Frederick County, Maryland, if you’re feeling trapped, overwhelmed, like a burden, or having thoughts of ending your life, please reach out. Local crisis help is available at 2‑1‑1 or 1‑866‑411‑6803. You deserve support, and there are people ready to listen, help, and walk with you toward safety and healing.
