Community Engagement Expands as Gear Up Launches Outreach Efforts

Frederick County continues to strengthen its commitment to public safety and community involvement. As preparations for the upcoming Great Frederick Fair move forward, county agencies are expanding their presence throughout the community to better connect residents with meaningful volunteer opportunities.

The Frederick County Volunteer Fire & Rescue system—powered by both volunteer and career personnel—provides vital fire, rescue, and EMS services across our 663 square miles. Volunteers remain essential to this coverage, supporting emergency response, administration, community education, and station operations.

This year, Gear Up, Frederick County’s volunteer recruitment program, is broadening its reach. In addition to traditional emergency services recruitment, Gear Up will begin actively connecting with residents outside of emergency‑focused settings, bringing information and opportunities directly to public spaces, schools, fairs, and community events.

This expanded outreach aims to show residents that there are many ways to serve—whether on the front lines or in supportive, non-operational roles that help keep our system strong.

Frederick County thrives because of people who step forward to help others. These recruitment efforts will make it easier than ever for community members to learn how they can get involved.
