Congress designated October 28th as National First Responders Day back in 2017. National First Responders Day is a day to recognize and celebrate all the brave first responders across our country who risk their lives to keep others safe.

First responders are the first to arrive at an emergency and the profession ranges from police officers to firefighters, EMTs, Paramedics, 9-1-1 Dispatchers, doctors and beyond.

We are lucky to have a dedicated, experienced, and very self-less group of volunteers that have served as first responders here for a very long time, with deep roots in the community. According to the Department of Homeland Security, 4.6 million career and volunteer first responders support the communities where they live.

These dedicated professionals answer the call when a crisis arises, often putting their own lives on the line. Being a first responder is not for the faint of heart. Every day, you are put to the test – in mind, body, and spirit. You must be willing to sacrifice everything in service of others.

To all the heroes of public safety, especially our volunteers: thank you! Our nation is grateful for you and your families, on this day and every day.
