Safety is paramount in any workplace. To handle the ever-expanding needs of the communities we serve, firefighters must receive ongoing training to ensure we are adequately prepared to respond to fire and rescue incidents along with a vast range of other emergencies. Training programs are the foundation of every fire department It is critical firefighters meet community and department needs.

This year the theme for Safety Stand Down, June 16-22, 2024, is “Fire Training: Back to Basics,” which emphasizes the importance of training by reinforcing proper strategies and tactics with a focus on the fundamentals.

Held each year during the third week of June, the campaign works to reduce the number of preventable injuries and deaths in the fire and emergency services. In support of Safety Stand Down, responder agencies are encouraged to suspend all non-emergency activities during the campaign week to focus on training and education related to this year’s theme.
