Why do we need volunteer firefighters?

The importance of having a volunteer fire corporation is that it provides essential services to communities, especially in rural areas. Without proper staffing, fire and EMS corporations cannot provide the services and protection their communities need. According to the U. S. Fire Administration (USFA) almost 70% of the United States firefighters are volunteers. Volunteer firefighters donate billions of dollars in work of services annually. It should be noted that community stakeholders are very important to our service.

Headlines from communities across the country proclaim many departments have reached a crisis point and that some may have to close if they can’t find more volunteers quickly. Most of these issues are because volunteerism in the fire and emergency services has not kept pace with population growth.

The delivery of emergency services in the U.S. has become increasingly complex. The fire department has become the go-to agency for almost all non-law enforcement emergencies. Unfortunately, this leads to response corporations becoming a jack-of-all-trades but a master of few.

Please come volunteer and learn with us. You need us! We need you.
