Veterans Day is observed annually on November 11. Veterans Day is a tribute to military veterans who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Veterans Day celebrates all military veterans who has served honorably in the military whether in war or peace. It is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, which ended the World War I hostilities between the Allied nations and Germany in 1918.

Veterans Day is a federal holiday. It is a day off for the general population, schools and most businesses are closed. It is a day when many activities are scheduled to celebrate the veterans with parades, church services and other ceremonies. Annually, an official wreath-lying ceremony is held each Veterans’ Day at the Tomb of the Unknowns in Arlington National Cemetery. Throughout America, the American flag is hung at half-mast and a period of silence lasting two minutes is held at 11:00 am to honor those who lost their lives in war.

So on this Veterans Day, thank a veteran for their service to the United States.

Gear Up will be participating in the 87th Annual Brunswick Veterans Day Parade on Sunday, November 10 to honor our veterans in one of the oldest Veterans Day celebration. See you there!
